Purchasing Procedure

Placing our puppies is a very important thing to us.

We enjoy getting to know our families and have a passion for placing the best puppy for each home.

Of course, our puppies can place at all different times of the week, applicants are always welcome.

If you are interested in a particular puppy or would like your purchase to move expeditiously for any reason please let us know.

Otherwise, we enjoy giving our clients time to make this important decision without pressure or stress.

Our Protocol For Placement Is As Follows

1.  Initial inquiry

Feel free to call or email at any time.  We will get back to you if its a bad time for us. AND if you use text/ email/ and phone plese tell us that you have already emailed.. Believe it or not we can have three different "Sarahs" in the same week. We like to chat with inquires and find that these conversations often run about 15-30 minutes and allow us to get a good feel for the character and energy of the potential home.  This is a great time to ask us any questions you might have regarding the exciting adventure of purchasing a puppy.  EMAIL: As parents we know that often the only time in the day that a person can "puppy shop" is during the late night hours.  Feel free to email us your initial inquiry at any time of the day if it is more conducive to your time restraints. Please include your contact information. We will provide helpful answers to you in any format, however we do need to speak to all prospective homes before placement. [Click For Contact Page]

2. Application Process

Please see our application link off of the home page of our site.  At this time it might be necessary for you to copy and paste it onto your own document or an email.  Please fill it out as carefully as you can.  Spend time considering your wishes for price range, look, time frame etc. If you want a puppy NOW please make a note of that to us. Maybe text us and let us know? We also can accept this document via fax (please call first, we share it on a landline with 2 teenagers). Please allow up to 48 hours for processing. BUT if you don't hear from us call to find out what is wrong. [Click For Application]

YOU MUST INCLUDE THE BEST MANNER AND TIME TO REACH YOU. AROUND NOON, OR AFTER 8PM IS BEST FOR US.

3.  Picking A Puppy

Upon approval we will work at matching you to the best puppy.  ALL factors are considered at this point and we love to communicate with our client to make a "love match". Whether long distance or local we will hold your picking position for 24 hours.  Please see info on long distance or local visits for more info. We do need all of our clients to remember that we usually are working with about 5 other applicants at a time. We also happen to be human and as in other families we deal with illness, death, groceries, laundry, unexpected visits from family, phone calls from friends in need and the over 400 puppy families we've had in ten years......mechanical breakdowns, and breakfast, lunch and dinner for 9+ people and all of our dogs every day. We even try to shower and play with the puppies so any limitations we have in contacting you, answering the phone, sending pictures of puppies or length of visits is not intended to offend you.  Please be patient. We are willing to earn you trust.

4.  Deposit to Hold Your Puppy

Whether you have picked a puppy in person or over the internet we do require a nonrefundable deposit of $250. This is not refundable no matter how eagerly you may attempt to blackmail it out of us with online slander so please take this step very seriously. If we are holding a puppy for you and turning all sorts of other interested parties away we can not break the laws of what a deposit is. It's only happened a couple of times, and sometimes we even try and wiggle people around if you truly can not get a puppy, but if you are the personality of person that likes to through temper tantrums please step away from the Paypal button and move on to the next breeder. Likewise, once you put a deposit on a puppy it is not viewed by another person.. not even for a look-see...it is all yours! And, if you need to go on vacation or end up in the hospital ..or move to Colorado and can't get a puppy for a year we will do our best to figure things out and hold puppy or transfer the deposit.

[Click our Deposit and Payments links]

 5.   Taking Puppy Home

Because we do prefer to show our puppies when they are ready to go home it is often possible to take puppy with you that day.  We will often hold a puppy for a couple days or a week... if it is more convenient for you. (Because for some reason a ton of people go on vacation at the same time as getting a puppy)we hold puppy for up to 10 days from deposit. Then it's $10 a day because we need to keep the vetting and stuff going.

If this is a long distance purchase we will do what we can to help puppy get to you safely.  Shipments can usually be done for Friday evening arrivals.  We also have offered to meet clients at a convenient location.  During busy seasons or if we have a personal reason to offer we can usually bring puppies down to areas of Chicago, Rockford, Appleton, etc to save people the trip there is a $50 trip charge for this.

6.  Raising Puppy

Our interest in puppy does not end when he/she goes home.  We are available to answer questions or help you handle obstacles. Of course, it is also very important to us to receive updates on how our puppies are doing as they grow. We offer our texting number to all of our clients so that we can keep in touch. Please keep in mind that if we've been up all night whelping a litter and keeping the puppies from being smooshed, while still chasing seven kids we may not be able to get back to you right away. But, we DO CARE and often have helpful hints that will save you time, money and worry.

7.  Guarantee

Puppy is covered under our exclusive "Puppy Covenant". This is a signed agreement that we are all working to keep puppy healthy.  There are no "strings attached" in the guarantee.  It is carefully formatted to honor our clients' ability to make healthy choices for the puppies.  We do not expect any of our puppies to be a burden to their family and we do not expect that anyone would EVER leave one of our puppies with a rescue.  Please keep in mind that there is no way to completely avoid the issues that dogs can have.  We've had very few issues with our puppy's health post placement, but things can happen and we urge our clients to look into Pet Health Insurance. No, we don't make any money on you choosing a program. We just think it is a great idea.

8. Pet Health Insurance
In 2009, we noticed a trend in our clients. A lot of them were purchase Pet Health Insurance. We've heard stories of clients having it pay for thousands of dollars of vetting on their last dog. We've also talked to several breeders and vets about it and agree that while responsible breeders always stand behind their dogs, a great majority of the health needs of a dog are environmentally caused or fall in a dogs later years when breeders don't offer refunds. There are also plans that cover routine care.  Cost starts at about $7 a month, well worth looking into!

9. Referrals and Repeat Cleints

We are thrilled that dozens of people buy a puppy from us a year because their sister, neighbor, co-worker, etc. has one from us. Ironically, we find that a lot of our clients come across someone in their life that has a puppy from us after working with us. They just never realized that the Berner down the road could be from us! We are thankful for your recommendations and always give priority to families that have worked with us in the past or come to us as a friend of the program! Thank you endlessly for your continual kind words and commitment to our program! You keep food on our table and our tails wagging!

A Little About Our Puppies

  • We anticipate 2-3 litters will be born into our care a few times a year. This means that although we do not always have puppies we will tend to have a few litters a season due to our dams' heat cycles.

  • We always own both the sire and dam of our litters which are typically available to meet the families considering their puppies.

  • We ask that if you are considering one of our puppies that you take a moment to get to know us through the links on the home page.  It is particularly helpful to learn about our purchasing procedure.

  • We are very low pressure and believe that each of our puppies is destined for a particular home. Our duty is to raise them in an environment of love while we are involved in this journey. Please let us know how quickly you would like the placement to move along.

  • Please see our Nursery link to learn more about the lives of our puppies. One distinguishing factor of our program is that the majority of our puppies leave our property closer to the 11th week of life and beyond.

SURPRISE
Occasionally we participate in surprising our client's loved ones with a puppy.
We love to do what we can to help create a circumstance that will be a wonderful memory.
For local families this can include delivery of puppy or meeting off site.
Of course, sometimes there are fees for travel, etc. Puppy always comes with a little red bow!

Thank you for considering our puppies!
